: ~IN THE STORAGE BARN~
**Having rounded up several grumbling thralls and Her toolkit, the tiny Woman orders them to work in pairs. Two per axle to roll the 10 foot rear wheel and 8 foot front wheels....more to haul the metal frame chassis....several others to haul up the carts bearing the wood, staves, and canvas, which make up the wagon's basic shell**

is upon the large pebble path and says to ALL: **Even by Kassar standards, this wagon is large, but it is to be expected. Her mate had been Saran's second in command, and She third in command, in Her own right, as well as filling most of the social and practical functions of the missing Ubara. She had not been Ubara, of course, but rather filling in those necessary duties int eh Ubara's absence. She shakes off these thoughts, and guides the grunting, straining, sweating thralls up the path**

is upon the large pebble path and says to ALL: **In time the whole crew comes to the spot Nyah had selected...a ways off the path, up the hill and off to one side of the meadow, sheltered by a thick line of trees, with the stream flowing nearby, and flat enough for the great plains wagon to be set up level...nearly perfect in every regard. She grins, thinking how Nyah had plotted out Their whole future Here, down to a picket fence and a flower garden in the summers.**

: **She takes pity and gives teh thralls a few ehns rest to catch their breath while jade eyes consider every angle. She lays her toolkit down pon the ground and unrolls it. Despite the seemingly large number of pieces, assembly is actually a fairly simple task, and one She had done and directed many times while living in Kassar. The tools are few and simple, and the thralls eye them briefly, looking back at the wagon's various parts, sizing up their task. After they all catch their breath, and her plan is figured out, she directs them to arrange the wagon's axled wheels just so at each end of the metal chassis parts. A few swift connections and the chassis is reassembled, the ease of it surprising the thralls. Now several of the men LIFT it up while others push the axles into place under it...it settles neatly into place, and a few more connections ensure it is secure**

: **Adjustments are made at Her direction, the variations being fairly simple....just a matter of a few horts here and there till a tiny tube of water with one air bubble and a thin line circling it's exact middle, tells Her that everything is perfectly level. A few bolts are tightened, and the chassis and wheels are ready for the next step**

: **She gives the thralls another breather, then orders them back to work. Long well-worn planks of age-darkened temwood are removed from the carts. They had long ago been carved to create tongue-and-groove on each edge...they simply slide and click together into sections**

: **When three long sections are complete, each fully twenty feet by five feet wide, they are lifted onto the chassis and settled into place before being clicked together. This forms the center, then the last boards are lifted, slid, clicked to create the solid floor of the wagon. Now She has the side boards attached, one by one, checking each with great care to see they are secure. when she is satisfied, the thralls are given another brief rest**

: **Now the staves are brought off the carts. Each is a long pole as thick as her arm, bent into a bow shape. Several of the wagon's floorboards are fitted with steel cups, these forming a neat perimeter just inside the outer boards. When they are in place, there will be a "catwalk" perhaps a foot wide between the little outside "walls" and the canvas. Each of the bows is put into place and secured. The sockets are a little closer than the natural ens of the bows, the thralls must strain to make them go in, which creates necessary tension and friction**

: **Now a midline pole is lashed into place at the top of the staves, creating a unified and remarkably sturdy frame. She does this part herself, sitting pon a thrall's high shoulder to do the task. Long years tying knots and bends on board the Talendar serve Her well, and Her ties are both swift and secure. The long roll of brilliant canvas is unfu.rled, then several long ropes are tied through sturdy grommets. The ropes are tossed up over the midline pole, and with much heaving, the edge is brought up and over till the canvas drapes in place over the frame, albeit somewhat loosely. Those thralls are given a breather, while the fresh ones are set to stretching and tugging the dome into place. their weight holds it securely in place, while She moves from stave to stave and secures each tie. A few final adjustments, and She gives the whole crew a break. This process isn't complicated, but it does take effort and precision, a fact She knows all too well**

: **At this point bota's of water are passed around. Several thralls comment that this is an interesting experience. One even works up the nerve to beg a question. The little Woman allows it, and he asks if all plains wagons are so large. She laughs, and tells him that this one is larger than most, second only to Ubar Saran's wagon, as Her Mate had been Second in Command of the entire Kassar camp. The thralls grin, then She dispatches them back to the storage barn with orders to bring certain specific bosk hides, as well as Their other items, the things for furnishing the insides. She tells them to be especially careful of the little steel stove, if it gets damaged it will mean their heads. The thralls' eyes all widen, and they hurry off. Meantime, She slips into the dark interior and draws a deep breath, taking in the familiar scent, just feeling this space inside in the darkness**

: **This is the first time in many hands that the tiny Woman has been all alone in any place, let alone Her own space, and She savors it to the fullest. No Mate, no slaves, not friends or relatives, no li'l Ones underfoot, eith. Just Her and silence....aaaahhhhh. A soft sigh of pleasure escapes parted lips. Soon enough it will be warm and light in here, and then She will be able to relax. All too soon She hears the thralls returning, and steps outside into the torch lit night, jumping back down onto the ground with ease rather than going down the wooden steps**

: **At her direction, the bosk hides are taken in first, along with glowing lamps. The hides are tacked up to the staves, fur side in toward the wagon's interior, each going in a particular place. The thralls wonder at this curious arrangement, till they see that certain holes cut in the hides correspond exactly to flaps in the wagon's canvas dome...then it makes sense. Their other question is also soon answered as already the hides begin to trap warmth from their bodies and raise the internal temperature by several noticeable degrees**

: **The glowing lamps are hung from hooks, and She remains inside, then has a thought. In the storage barn are several huge blocks of moss She had cut some time ago...She orders these brought, along with long draw-shaves. When the huge blocks are brought, She orders them cut into thick sections lengthwise, to form thick, even pads. These are laid neatly all over the wagon's floor, as the thralls wonder what She is up to. Her purpose is simple, though, and revealed as soon as She orders the thick, ornate carpets laid out over the unusual moss padding. The dry moss is insulation against cold and drafts. It will absorb moisture when weather is damp, and swell up to provide additional protection, yet dry out easily and be much cooler when the weather is dry and warm. The thralls catch on swiftly, and soon the entire floor with its' moss padding is entirely covered**

The tiny Woman is fastidious about such details, having learned long ago that order is essential to being comfortable in such a small space. After She is satisfied, several baskets are hug up, that contain various cooking and tea implements, then tightly sealed earthenware jars are brought in, also arranged to Her exacting specifications

: **The tiny steel stove, an item She had ordered and purchased custom-made in Turia, is brought in but not lit. It will need a solid and sturdy fireproof base before She will risk using it, but that is a task for another day. Now perhaps 3 feet inside the door, She orders teh final curtain hung, creating a wind-block from the outside when P/people enter, and incidentally a pretty decent storage space, too. It is in 2 parts, well overlapped at the center, to allow for relatively easy entry, but still keep wind out. She looks around now, satisfied. The interior is warm and cozy with the lamp's light and the heat they provide being so efficiently trapped, plus the emanated body heat of Herself and the thralls. Satisfied, She dismisses the collared men with a soft word of thanks, then takes a few ehn to savor having Her own space again****
