Emotional advice.
Gor is fictional based on a series of books by John Norman. The books are dramatic with a high paced emotive story line for sale value. Role-play does not need to follow the same suit, it is about fun, adventure and imagination. Those people who seek nothing but high impact drama will tend to find that they are stressed and may feel that Gor just drags them down. One must keep in mind that the game is fictional but the emotion behind the characters is often very real.
You are playing a character, as you do everyday of your real life and the advice there is as real as it here, do unto others as you would have others do unto you! Yes, you can still have drama and adventure but you be ready willing and able to communicate those emotions. To fail to do this could cause others undue stress and grief.
A few guide lines for Gor paying is watch your mood, if you are in a bad mood and you know you are just looking to vent some anger then here is not the place you need to be. The same if you have been drinking, ensure others know you have been before emotions run high and things done or said in haste. The words on the screen, unlike speaking, hang in the air to be gone over and over again by the other person. This can have a swelling effect to the reply that you receive.
Know what rooms you are playing in and what the normal perception of that room is. A crossroads is typically seen as a capture area. So, if you play a FW and go to the CR and get attacked, is that the fault of the attacker or the FW? The person trying to catch you is not normally just doing it to give you a hard time, it is because they think that is why you are there! FM do not go to the jungle areas very often….why? Because they know a Panther is going to think he wants to be a thrall! Same with the crossroads!
All it takes is a little common sense and mutual respect in order to be able to play a rich full adventure without the childish bickering you can find yourself in. Of course there are those out there that do this just for the purpose of causing this problem…..stay out of Hulneth if that is the case.
